Most people train for HYROX in pieces, with a run on Tuesday and sleds on Thursday. The race asks for all of it at once, on tired legs, with a clock running. A race simulation is the closest you’ll get to that before race day.
The first run usually feels easy. The eighth tells you whether you went out too fast.
Getting off a run and onto the SkiErg, setting up for the sleds, deciding how to break up 100 wall balls. At a HYROX race this changeover area is called the Roxzone, and the time you spend there adds up.
Your finish time goes up on the live leaderboard. It’s a real number to train from, and one to beat next time.
Heats start together and the room cheers everyone home. It feels a lot more like race day than a solo time trial, and it’s more fun.

Every HYROX race follows the same order: a run, then a station, eight times through. Because the order never changes, you can rehearse it. Here’s what you’ll face, with a coaching cue for each station.
You head out on an outdoor loop, then come back inside for the next station. At official HYROX races, each run is 1 km.
A standing machine you pull down on, like cross-country ski poles. You hit it straight off the first run, when adrenaline says go hard, so settle into a pace you could hold for twice as long.
Keep your body low and your steps short and quick. Aim for a steady drive the whole way. Sprinting the first few metres usually ends in a stall.
Pull the sled toward you hand over hand on a rope, with your weight sitting back. Grip and upper back fade here, so keep each pull long and the rhythm steady.
A burpee, then a two-footed jump forward, repeated down the lane. Pick a jump length you can keep repeating without stopping.
Treat it as a controlled reset at the start of the second half. Drive with your legs, keep a stroke rate you can breathe through, and let your heart rate come down.
Grip usually goes before your legs. Plan fewer, longer sets, and put the kettlebells down before you drop them.
At HYROX races this is sandbag lunges, with your back knee touching the floor on every step. Your legs have already done six stations, so the pacing you held earlier pays off here.
Squat, then throw a medicine ball up to a target on the wall, 100 times. Decide how you’ll break up the reps before you start, and stick to it when the target starts to feel higher.
Distances and reps are the HYROX race standard. Some stations run as laps or lengths to fit our floor, and weights depend on your division, so check the current HYROX rulebook before you train. Independently organized by Fit Factory. Not an official HYROX race.
